Regional Nuclear Safety Training Centre in Lithuania

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) provides assistance and support for the member states of this organisation in their objectives to maintain appropriate technical competence by ensuring nuclear safety and high safety culture at nuclear energy objects. To this end IAEA helps its member states in identifying the needs for nuclear safety training, supports initiatives of establishing regional and national training centres, helps in creating training programmes of lecturers, standardised training modules for those who want understand main principles of ensuring safety more thoroughly and in more detail. One of the main objectives of the nuclear safety training strategy of the IAEA is preparation of training programmes.

With the aim to encourage enhancing of knowledge in the field of nuclear safety, training and improvement of qualification of employees of organisations related to the nuclear energy, the State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) and the IAEA have initiated establishment of the Regional Nuclear Safety Training Centre in Lithuania. It is planned that the first courses on nuclear safety in Lithuania will be organised in autumn of 2008. All interested representatives of organisations of the Baltic region will be invited to participate.
