Measurements of Hydrological and Thermal Balance in Drūkšiai Lake

Thorough measurements of water temperature and meteorological conditions were conducted  in Drūkšiai Lake next to which the new Visaginas NPP will be located, (see picture No.1. Measurement Sites in Drūkšiai Lake).   After the measurements were performed, the mathematical model of water temperature in the lake has been revised, and based on the conclusions of the analysis of the data collected the maximum thermal load on the lake permissible from the environmental point of view was established, the data for designing the cooling systems of the new Visaginas NPP has been revised and the recommendations for the creation of the water temperature monitoring system in the lake has been drawn up.

A Public Monitoring Committee was formed for investigations in Drūkšiai Lake. The representatives from state environmental institutions, non-governmental environmental organisations and scientists having extensive experience in examining Drūkšiai Lake were invited to take part in the Committee.
