Connecting Visaginas NPP to Transmission Grid

This project implemented by Visagino atominė elektrinė, UAB is aimed at preparing the infrastructure of electrical network required for connecting the new Visaginas NPP to the transmission grid.

Visaginas NPP will be connected to the transmission grid in three stages (the project is due to be accomplished in 2015):

• During the 1^st stage, the pre-project studies will be prepared, scientific research will be conducted;
• During the 2^nd stage, the technical project will be drawn up for the reconstruction of 330/110 kV substation;
• During the 3^rd stage, the reconstruction of 330/110 kV substation will take place.

The first stage of the project is currently under implementation. On 19 May this year, Visagino atominė elektrinė, concluded a contract with Energetikos pajėgos UAB concerning the study that will analyse what the scheme of the substation should be and in what stages it should be reconstructed so that electricity could be continuously supplied to the old Ignalina NPP, its consumers in construction sector and the new Visaginas NPP could be connected to it. During the first stage, a piece of research “Distribution of Overvoltage in 330/110 kV Substation of Visaginas NPP” will be prepared. All the works of the first stage are due to be completed in 2010.
