The last works of designing the routes for the transportation of heavyweight and bulky equipment necessary for the construction of the new Visaginas Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) as well as the major share of NPP building components have been drawing to a close. Experts have already evaluated the condition of all sections along the route such as bridges, overpasses, turns, etc., which need reconstruction. 33 topographic plans have been drawn up and coordinated; initial project proposals have been selected and calculated; and other technical parameters have been assessed.
All works of designing transportation routes are to be completed by October. Detailed economic calculations necessary for the preparation of the route for the transportation of non-bulky cargo have been currently performed.
“Heavyweight and bulky equipment and the major share of components for the new Visaginas NPP will be shipped through the Baltic Sea and transported to the construction site at a distance of over 500 km from the port. Therefore, we have to prepare beforehand, i.e. to responsibly assess the condition of designed routes and perform necessary works. So far, all preparatory works have been going smoothly and in line with the fixed schedule,” says Tadas Matulionis, Project Management Director of “Visagino atominė elektrinė”.
According to him, all obtained data will also be used when drawing up the Special Communications Plan, which is an integral part of this year’s Implementation Plan of the Priorities of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.
A study was carried out last year, which established and evaluated the potential routes and modes of transportation of deadweight and bulky cargo from both southern and northern part of the Klaipėda Seaport to the construction sites of Visaginas NPP, and identified the sections of transportation that require reconstruction.
