On May 24, detailed plan of the land parcels for the new Visaginas new nuclear power plant (NPP) was approved. The plan specifies the land parcels necessary for the construction and exploitation of the new NPP and the exploitation and decommissioning of the Ignalina NPP.  The formed land parcels are a very important part of the Lithuania’s property contribution into the construction project of the new Visaginas NPP.

After the plan was harmonised with the related authorities, which had imposed the requirements, the Municipality of the City of Visaginas approved the detailed plan of the land parcels for Visaginas NPP.

“We have successfully finished one more important phase of the preparation for the construction of the new nuclear power plant. The approval of the detailed plan allowed achieving two important aims: to form a part of the property contribution of Lithuania into the construction project and to clearly define territories for two project under implementation near each other, .i.e. the construction of the new Visaginas NPP and decommissioning of the Ignalina NPP,” Minister of Energy Arvydas Sekmokas said.

Apart from the formed land parcels for the construction of the new NPP, the detailed plan specifies a place for a permanent storage facility for the Ignalina NPP spent nuclear fuel, a complex for treatment and storage of solid radioactive waste, a landfill of short-term low activity waste, a rail-way for specific purposes and other objects.
